With so many different brands, installers, and online reviews – it can be hard to work out which system is best for you.

But what if we told you that the brand alone isnotthe most important factor?

A great air conditioner will provide year-round comfort and excellent long-term value. And to achieve this, there are aspects you should consider beyond the brand itself.

The Importance of a Great Installation

The most overlooked aspect of air conditioning is the installation itself. Your new A/C unit may be high-quality, but if the ac installation is poor – you won’t get the benefit.

When you’re shopping for an air conditioner, ask yourself these 3 questions:

Is it designed correctly?Air conditioning is a long-term investment which enhances your quality of life. A good installer will take the time to discuss your living habits, your air quality, any potential allergies, and humidity levels. All of these play a key role in designing an efficient system.

Is it the right size?No matter how efficient the A/C is, you won’t get the benefit if it’s too small. An undersized system needs to work overtime to heat or cool your home – resulting in a shock when your energy bill arrives. It also puts a heavy strain on the unit – requiring frequent maintenance and reducing the lifespan of your system.

Is the installer experienced?Not all A/C installers are the same. Many companies will sell you the unit – and then auction out the installation to the lowest bidder. Standard vs High-Efficiency Air Conditioners

If you’re confused by all of the different home air conditioning system ratings, there’s one number you can rely on – the SEER rating.

Applied by the US Department of Energy, a SEER rating is a direct measure of energy efficiency. In simple terms, the higher the rating – the lower the power use. A highly efficient unit may cost more to install – but you’ll get cheaper power bills from day one.

In Northern Virginia, only air conditioners with a SEER rating of 14 or higher can be installed. One of our most recommended brands Rheem has units rated up to 19.5 – making them one of the most energy-efficient brands on the market.

Online Reviews Can Be Misleading

If you’re comparing home air conditioner system ratings, you may use online reviews to make your decision.

Whilst this can be a helpful guide, the world of online ratings is not always what it seems. Many review sites feature unverified content – or may exist simply to promote or discredit a particular brand. One brand may receive 5-star reviews on one site – and 1-star reviews on another.

Our advice? Talk to someone who installs and repairs air conditioners for a living.
